Why Your Gut Healing Isn’t Working (And What to Do Instead)
If you’ve been struggling with gut issues despite doing “all the right things”—cutting out gluten, going dairy-free, eating organic—you’re not alone. I’ve worked with so many clients who come to me feeling frustrated and hopeless, wondering why their restrictive diet hasn’t led to real healing. And here’s what I tell them: Food is only one piece of the puzzle.
I know this firsthand. When I was deep in my own gut healing journey, I thought removing inflammatory foods would be enough. And while it helped, I still dealt with bloating, fatigue, and unpredictable digestive issues. That’s when I realized that true healing requires looking beyond just what’s on your plate.
Your Gut Can’t Heal in Survival Mode
One of the biggest overlooked factors in gut health? Your nervous system. Chronic stress keeps your body stuck in fight-or-flight mode, and when that happens, digestion takes a backseat. Your gut simply can’t function properly when your body thinks it’s in danger.
I had a client, Rachel, who had been on a strict gut-healing diet for over a year. She avoided gluten, dairy, sugar, and processed foods—but she was still dealing with bloating, food sensitivities, and persistent constipation. However, we discovered her body was in a near-constant state of stress. She was juggling a demanding job, poor sleep, and unresolved emotional trauma. Once we focused on nervous system regulation—through deep breathing, somatic work, and vagus nerve stimulation—her digestion improved without changing a single thing about her diet.
This is why I always emphasize that gut healing isn’t just about what you eat—it’s about the state your body is in when you eat.
Detoxification: The Missing Link
The other major roadblock? Toxins. If your liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system aren’t efficiently clearing out toxins, your gut will remain inflamed—no matter how clean your diet is.
Take my client, Mark. He had been taking gut-healing supplements, eating an anti-inflammatory diet, and even trying fasting. Yet, he still felt sluggish, bloated, and foggy. When we looked deeper, we found he had a high toxic burden—from mold exposure, heavy metals, and gut infections. His body was holding onto these toxins, keeping him stuck in a cycle of inflammation and dysfunction.
Once we opened up his detox pathways—supporting his liver, lymphatic drainage, and bowels—his gut symptoms finally began to improve.
